The other side of the Curtain

Pakistan is one-of-its-kind country that treats transgender, commonly known as “Khawaja-sara“, uniquely. At times “Khawaja-sara” are perceived as bearers of good fortune, During wedding ceremonies or the birth of a child,

they are invited to dance in the homes and afterwards, they are cast out on the street to beg. My work involves portraying their lives on the other side of the curtain,

where they are not performing on the streets, weddings or births. My work depicts the bond that they have as a family, the family that they have now, after some being outcasted from their birth family.

These pictures also portray how these individuals of our society are leading their lives as we, a whole society, have failed to support them.
